Business Sells Customer Fake Textbook, Business Gets Launched From Orbit

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time that we've encountered a story where a business tried to pull some shady BS on a customer, and we're sure that it won't be the last time. In this case, Reddit user u/AbortRetryImplode shared a winding story on the subreddit r/ProRevenge about how poor grades on a Ph.D. program assignment based around APA citation writing led them to realize the textbook they had purchased was actually counterfeit. This person took their investigation to a new level, tracking down the book seller's personal information and took the time to report them for selling counterfeit books on publishing platforms and even to the FBI. They found out later on that the seller was forced to stop selling books.

Good on the customer for taking matters into their own hands and basically nuking the business from orbit. To make matters better, they even received a grade raise for proving they didn't do the assignment wrong, the textbook was wrong. Yo love to see it.     Font - By this time I was thinking I was out of my mind. I sent a Strongly Worded Letter (tm) to the APA that basically said, "What book like this?" They wrote back and did the business equivalent of patting me on the head and saying, "We're sorry you don't like our book." Then I started REALLY looking at the book.     Font - This is the part where I went full Internet stalker. I searched for their company name and found it was a registered LLC. I got the address from their state's listing of small business registrations (which turned out to be a fairly nice looking house per Google Maps) then looked up property tax records on the house to get the owner's name. I found the owner on Facebook and found they had a business website listed under a completely different name that they'd shared all over their FB timel

    Font - Today I happened upon my old APA manual and I started wondering whatever happened to them so I dug up the emails with the info and went looking. They no longer have seller profiles on any of the sites. Their website has been taken over by a domain re-seller. The house appears to have been sold last year (which may not be related, but l'd like to think it is.)
